I am a Consultant Neurologist, with a special interest in MND and related disorders, and a Co-Director of the Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre. I studied medicine at the University of Leeds and then undertook a PhD studying mechanisms of neurodegeneration at the University of Sheffield. I undertook my clinical neurology training in the regional centres of Leeds, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sheffield. Over the last 15 years I have been involved in multiple national clinical trials as either Chief Investigator or as co-Investigator. I have a particular interest in gathering evidence to improve the management of symptoms experienced by patients with MND and have a programme of research funded by NIHR, the European Union and the MND Association.

I am the Chair of the UK MND Clinical Studies Group and Academic Director for Neuroscience at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have undertaken work for NICE, contributing to the 2016 MND Clinical Guidelines and Quality Standards.
