Johnathan Cooper-Knock is a clinical fellow in Neurology. He arrived in Sheffield in 2008 as an NIHR academic clinical fellow and since that point has been researching motor neurone disease under the supervision of Professor Shaw, alongside his clinical training. His interest is in studying the changes to gene expression caused by motor neurone disease as a way of better understanding the disease and identifying therapeutic targets. In particular his research has focused on the inherited forms of the disease especially patients with the newly discovered expansion in C9ORF72. Johnathan completed his medical degree at the University of Oxford where he first developed an interest in motor neurone disease. In addition he has a first class honours degree in physiological sciences also from the University of Oxford.
